This Month's Spotlight Artist is Preston Barnes
Preston D Barnes is a UK based country music artist. During his military career David has travelled extensively across the globe to over 38 countries. He has played with world renowned artists such as: Jools Holland, Russell Watson, Catherine Jenkins, JLS, and had the opportunity of recording the re-release of Status Quo’s Famous single ‘In The Army Now’ in 2010 as a backing vocalist.
Signed to the new Country Music record label Sonic Boom Records, Preston has previously released 2 albums and is also working on his 3rd release, a collection of original material written by some of USA's most famous songwriters. Preston has always been a Country Music fan and released his debut single in May 2022. Preston is looking forward to performing live within the Country Music scene and, as a natural entertainer, he will have you on your feet from the start.
The most recent single ‘Way Back When’ was written by Canadian singer/songwriter Victoria Dykes. Produced by Mark Wickenden at Sonic Boom Music and co-produced by Ben Newton, the song boasts a slick production and a catchy chorus that will reel you in and, in a live setting, have you up on your feet dancing. Meanwhile, Preston’s vocals are strong but smooth, he reminded me of Brett Young or Russell Dickerson on his last release but channels someone like Mitchell Tenpenny when delivering this song. It’s hard to find fault with this track, the perfect song for the perfect voice. This is such a strong release from Preston which makes me eager to hear what’s to come!.

Hometown and fun fact about it or what it’s best known for? My hometown is (where I was born) Burnley… Fun fact about Burnley is the fact that the Queen Street Mill textile museum was used for a scene in the 2010 Oscar-winning film The King's Speech.
Most memorable musical moment? Wow!! Probably singing the national anthem at Wembley for the FACUP FINAL! Along with getting a chair turn on The Voice UK!! Hard question lol…
Most embarrassing/unexpected musical moment? The most unexpected musical moment was being a principle vocalist in the amazing 80’s Mania theatre show where I had to dress up and sing/dance like these guys: Boy George, Wham, Erasure, Tears for Fears and Dead or Alive! Needless to say it was so much fun, although I can’t dance too well, so it took plenty of embarrassing rehearsals to get it right lol.
What's a random or fun fact we may not know about you? I can guess the weight of any item by holding it in my hands and get it virtually spot on every time! Great for weighing suitcases before arriving at the airport HAHA!
What's next following the release of “Way Back When”? I’m working hard in the studio, putting the final touches of the next single together! Can’t wait to share it with you all… Also I’m really looking forward to performing LIVE on some exciting new Country music shows (more details coming soon!).
