Some songs are catchy. Some songs are clever. And then some songs make you pause and ask yourself a question.
When Steven Cade joined me on Talk & Tunes, we didn’t just talk about his new single, “If God Had a Truck.” We talked about what it means to use the gifts you’ve been given — especially in a world that feels heavy at times. Steven is a Nashville-based country artist whose music blends faith, family, and community impact, and this conversation went far beyond the typical “tell me about your new release” interview.

The idea for If God Had a Truck came from a simple but powerful question posed during a church sermon: “If God had a truck, what would be on His radio dial?” That question sparked something creative — but it also sparked something deeper. The song encourages listeners to reflect on how they show up for others, how they serve their communities, and how everyday actions can carry eternal weight.
The Mission Behind Giving Guitars
One of the most meaningful parts of our conversation centered around Giving Guitars, a nonprofit foundation founded by Steven and his wife, Kellee Cade. What began as a desire to bring hope into difficult spaces has grown into a nationwide outreach effort. Since launching the organization in 2021, they have visited more than 150 shelters across multiple states, donating guitars and creating music-centered experiences for families, youth, veterans, recovery communities, and individuals navigating domestic violence and hardship.
Giving Guitars is more than an instrument donation program. It is built on the belief that music is a powerful therapeutic tool. Through guitar circles, songwriting sessions, and community engagement, the foundation creates environments where connection replaces isolation and hope replaces despair. As a registered nurse and mental health advocate, this part of the conversation resonated deeply with me. Music reaches places words sometimes cannot. It shifts atmospheres. It opens doors emotionally and neurologically in ways science continues to affirm.
The Heart of This Episode: Music as Therapy
And here’s the heart of this episode:
Music isn’t just entertainment. It’s therapy.
When Steven described striking a single chord and the way it activates multiple areas of the brain at once, you could hear the conviction in his voice. He has seen firsthand how music can calm anxiety, spark creativity, and create community inside spaces that feel broken. In shelters where hope feels scarce, something as simple as a guitar can become a lifeline.
That kind of purpose-driven artistry is something I deeply respect. Steven isn’t simply writing songs to climb charts. He’s writing songs that ask questions and invite reflection. If God Had a Truck is a country song, yes — but it’s also a reminder to consider what we’re broadcasting into the world.
Beluga Host: A Family Effort That Fuels the Mission
We also discussed Beluga Host, a web hosting company launched by Steven’s son after noticing how often artists, nonprofits, and small businesses overpay for domains, email services, and hosting platforms. The goal was simple: create an affordable, streamlined solution that offers enterprise-level reliability without inflated pricing or unnecessary complexity.
What makes Beluga Host especially meaningful is that any profit generated supports the Giving Guitars Foundation. It’s another example of how the Cade family has woven purpose into multiple lanes — music, nonprofit outreach, and even technology — all working together to serve communities in practical ways.
A Message That Goes Beyond Genre
Steven’s music is rooted in faith, family, and service. Whether or not you share the same personal beliefs, the message remains universal: use what you’ve been given to show up for others. In a time when the music industry can feel transactional, conversations like this remind me why I started Rt66 Country Music in the first place — to spotlight artists who lead with heart and intention.
If you’ve ever believed that a song could shift your perspective or that music has the power to heal, this episode will resonate.
