Artist Advice - If You Have A Dream, Chase It

“If you have a dream, chase it til you die” is the anthem I go by for this crazy journey I put myself in when I decided to pursue music. I was recently called the “Forest Gump” of the music industry, which is so funny but true.

I started running on this path with ‘braces’, no money, no help, and little to no support 5 years ago. I had no earthly clue what I was doing and still don’t but I had a dream that I have been determined to make happen and even under much adversity, I have still managed to get into the position I am now. I’m creating amazing music, working with incredible songwriters, producers, and musicians, and obtaining opportunities I had only dreamed of having.

I think that is the reality of the music industry and as you dive deeper into your journey, you’ll realize that no one really knows what they are doing but shooting their shot in the dark to have that next viral hit or that life-changing opportunity. The best advice I have to give as an artist to another artist is to be yourself. As cliché as that is, it’s the most important thing in the world. No one can be you and that truly is a superpower. This journey has taught me so much about myself, taking a deep look into the mirror and fine-tuning all the unique sides of me that I can turn into a business has been the coolest thing ever. You are never in a box, the world is your oyster, and every weird, crazy, beautiful part of you that makes you who you are needs to shine big and bright. Try to never miss an opportunity no matter how small or big, always be willing to grow, and never give up. You can always be better at what you do, never be complacent.

There are going to be many moments in your journey where you are going to want to quit but please push through it. If you have this dream, you are meant to do this! Everyone’s journey is going to be different, and what success may look like for someone else may be completely different than yours, even if it isn’t how you expect and that’s more than okay. Celebrate it all because it’s all something to be so proud of. Releasing the outcome and expectation of your goals and what you see as successful is a must! Always be willing to adapt and open to change. Nothing is as it seems. This industry is difficult but it gives all artists the creative freedom to share their life stories and talents with the world. Honor how incredible that is because it is.
