"When you feel your walls are caving in, it’s time to get up and start again"
Scars tells the story of a young girl expressing her dreams for her future. The girl is looking back from [her now] happy place and showing great vulnerability in disclosing her problematic past - friends who have let her down and tried to come back into her life; relationships that were toxic and abusive.
Although no one can see them, she has 'Scars' that are hidden, but very much embedded. She maintains that she should hate them but instead thanks them for making her the person she has become…can’t we all relate to that?!
Adele and Andy’s song “Scars” is attention-grabbing, and relatable. With its contrasting theme of both regret and hope it is truly a unique and beautiful piece. While it acknowledges pain and suffering, the song is ultimately quite inspiring. The instrumentation stays true to country and has some very tasteful banjo, but it also brings a soft rock/pop feel which was a wonderful flavor to add to the song and the genre. This is the perfect song to listen to during a time when you need a little bit of hope or even just to jam out to on a summer drive.
